Technological World Inquiry presentation

WALT - discover the changes in the technological world.

Throughout the weeks we have been doing an Inquiry presentation about the technological world, in this presentation we got some questions given to us from the teachers but me and my group added some extra questions just to give it some detail. 

The topic/technology we chose to write about was phones and how they have changed our lives and our they have changed throughout the years, something I learnt about doing this presentation was that phones were originally made in 1876. 

Something I enjoyed about doing this task is that I actually got to learn about how phones have changed so things like when there were no phones families went out and kids went outside to play and have fun, when phones came people still preferred to play outside and sometimes talk on the phone but NOW kids are always on their phones, they barely get out in the sun. 

Something I didn't enjoy or found challenging was finding out weather the inventor was scottish or french but I did a lot of searching and found my answer.

Inquiry Lesson 1 Reflection

WALA: Our Technological World. 

In the morning block we discussed what technology is and what different technology items there is, some of the items we discussed were clocks, watches, lamps, T.V, washing machines, clothes dryer, hair dryer and a lot more.  

The definition we have come up with today was, Technology is something that has a useful purpose.

Technology I use at Home -

Fridge and Oven -

A fridge is used every single day, because if you were to turn your fridge off with food in it, it will likely defrost your food, cause a small amount of flooding, and your food will go off. This is just one of the many items we use in my house hold. The next piece of technology is the very well known in households, the oven can be used for many things but the main reason or purpose is for it to be used for cooking your food, weather it's the oven or the stove. The oven is used pretty much every single day in my household, the only time we don't use the oven is when we get take out so things like pizza, chinese anything fast and easy.

Table and Chairs -

Even though when we think of Technology we straight away think of TV's, phones, laptops and pretty much anything that runs on electricity, but that's not true because you can get a lot of things that don't need electricity like spoons, tables, chairs, forks, beds. I know it's not really something you think of when it comes to technology but table and chairs are definitely a piece of technology, if you didn't know technology is something, item or object that was created by a human to make our lives easier.

Oven and Washing Machine -

These are technological items that we use nearly everyday unless you feel like having a lazy night and ordering pizza for dinner. Things like ovens, washing machines, microwaves, forks, spoons and knives are practically things we use everyday maybe only missing a day or two without using them. These may be items that come to your head while thinking about technology, but the main point is that these are nearly everyday technological items that we use.

Agricultural Technology -

Agriculture is farming and gardening, so things like cattle farming an example is like farming cows, sheep, pigs so pretty much animals and gardening is like planting plants and growing fruits, tractor, veggies and flowers.

Agriculture is used in every country, and the technology they use are things like, water hoses, shovels, spades, greenhouses and garden lamps. 

Construction Technology -

Construction involves building things like houses, buildings, apartments, offices and a lot more, you might have construction items at home so things like hammers, shovels, drills, crain, diggers, bulldozers, forklift, nails, nail gun and a lot more items. These are all the different technological items that you can find at a construction site or if you search construction.

Museum Reflection

WALT: Reflection on the things we did at our first Museum lesson.

Today half of the Kia Manawanui syndicate went to an amazing educational Museum trip, in this trip we got to explore so many things and most of them were things that i've never heard of or have never experienced. In this trip we got to explore a small amount of the Museums prized possessions like there dinosaur carcass and bones and there volcano room we got to explore this with Tom and Aaron. We also got a fun lesson on robots that we got to play with other things like virtual reality and we got to do this lesson with the two very intelligent Wendy, Angelina.

The thing I enjoyed the most about this was exploring everything because it was very interesting because I got to learn so many thing that I probably wouldn't even know or learn. Another reason why I enjoyed this was because I also got to see things that I would probably never see out of the museum.

Something I found hard/challenging was with the VR (virtual reality) I didn't know how to draw properly with the controller and things like that because I didn't realize that I had to drag the controller to see what happens but then I slowly got the hang of it and then I realized what to do with it but when I got the hang of it I had to move onto the next one.

Natural Disasters - Blizzards

WALT: Research about other natural disasters for a better understanding.

Yesterday I blogged and researched about Typhoons and got a really good understanding about them (Typhoons) now I will be researching about Blizzards and how they occur/happen and what they are and so much more questions and things like that.

What is a blizzard?

A blizzard is actually a very windy snowstorm where it snows for a very very long time and where winds are very strong so it is a very severe (bad) snowstorm. How do they happen? Blizzards are caused by warm air rising over cold air from the equator which is the line in the center/middle of the Earth.

But what's the actual way of a Blizzard forming?

Well it is just as I said formed from warm air rising over cold air from the equator causing it to bind or be brought together and something called a front happens precipitation (rain, snow, hail, sleet).

Are Blizzards being caused by humans?

It is a natural disaster because snow and wind is not man or human made at all and that is why a blizzard is a natural disaster and the things humans are doing aren't participating in this natural disaster so therefore human actions aren't cause or affecting this natural disaster.

Natural Disasters - Typhoon

WALT : research about natural disasters.

In this last block we will be researching about natural disasters which is actually our new term inquiry topic and we have a number of questions to answer, the natural disaster I will be researching is a Typhoon because I personally think it's unique.

Have you ever wondered what a Typhoon is? Well let me tell you, a typhoon is actually a tropical storm that usually happens around the Indian and Pacific ocean, it is actually very similar to a hurricane and a tropical cyclone.

But is that the only place where Typhoons hit? Well Typhoons can actually happen a lot less in certain areas and countries in the world but they are also very common here is a list of some common places that get hit by Typhoons.

Most Typhoons hit around Indian ocean, western Pacific ocean, east of Asia so close to places like Japan. Typhoons are formed from warm air which usually comes from warm water but that is actually why you don't see or hear about many Typhoons because they rarely happen. The spinning rate for a Typhoon is up to 75 - 150 mph (mile per hour) but a strong/super Typhoon can go 150+ mph (miles per hour).

How do people get affected by Typhoons? Why?

A lot of people usually get hurt and affected by Typhoons because they are really strong so people do get injured and hurt some unfortunately do sadly lose their lives, people lose their homes making them homeless, cars and a lot of other things. This happens because the wind from a Typhoon is just to strong for peoples items and people in general. So this affects a lot of people when they happen but they are quite rare because you did need a lot of warm water and a lot of strong air to cause a Typhoon?

Is Typhoon the most dangerous natural disaster?

It is actually a very dangerous storm because its not a very light storm and things like that but it is also not the most dangerous and im very happy that I have not experienced one before but I hope for all those that have that they are ok and safe. The reason why Typhoons aren't the most dangerous natural disaster because there are much much worse ones but they also can be depending on the spread the wind is blowing.

Earth Learning reflection

Earth - 

Earth is our beloved home and planet it is also called the goldilocks planet because the temperature is not to hot and not to cold, Earth provides us with everything we need from the air we breath to the food we eat and even the ground we step on which is something you already know well I hope you know, something I learnt from doing this as an Inquiry was that we have to do is respect the environment a lot more than what we are doing at the moment because we are getting places all over the world that are getting a lot more pollution and things like that and also just really bad and I think we should help look after the world since it's given us so many things.

Inquiry Investigation

So far throughout the inquiry we have just been starting to get our projects started and things like that, for my group we have all chosen to do a Cardboard display because its something that is really easy, fast, simple and usually really eye catching and things like that.

I really enjoyed this investigation because it was something that needed a lot of researching and listening and patience and overall I really enjoyed working as a group with my friends and the peers around me, something I didn't enjoy was that it did take a long time to finish and that we have to show off the projects by wednesday and its currently Monday and its not a lot of time so I have to work really really hard to finish it especially since none of my group is here to help me finish it there is only me and only me currently.

At the start of this investigation I never knew anything about black holes all I knew was that it was black and it had a hole those were the only things I knew but finishing this investigation I now know things like there is at least 100 million, strong gravitational pull, 100 - 1,000,000 times bigger than our Sun and that they can swallow and suck in dying stars.

Making connections with black holes

Throughout the past 1-2 weeks we have been studying different topics about space, My group has chosen black holes we first chose this because we wanted a better understanding of why and what black holes are we also chose this because it sounded like a very interesting subject and things like that.

Me and my group have gotten an amazing better and good understanding of what black holes are some of these things I will say now and the rest you can go onto the slide to see and look at, some of the things I learnt over the weeks were that black holes have a very strong gravitational field (very strong gravity around it) and that there is up to 100 million of them.

Something I found challenging about this was with some of the questions I couldn't find any good answers and things like that so I had to change my question up and I had to try make it a bit more specific so I could try get the answer im looking for and there were no books that we could find that were about black holes, something I really enjoyed about doing this was that I got a better understanding of what black holes are and what they do, I also really liked finding out facts and researching about this topic because I personally really like researching about things especially if I don't know what they are and if my group doesn't know what they are as well.

Inquiry Reflection

This week we have been investigating our chosen inquiry topic, my inquiry topic my group (Me, Aja, Lizzy, Taonga) have chosen black holes. We chose black holes because we don't know a lot about black holes and I think we all wanted to learn more about it, I wanted to chose black holes because I only have a small amount of understanding about black holes and my understanding is very basic like all I know is that they are black, big and they have a good amount of gravitational field which I have just learned recently.

Something I think I find challenging is that some websites may not have the correct information that i'm looking for and they might not have the correct information like they may state something and it may not be entirely true so you have to look at a number of websites to make sure that everything is correct.

My next steps for our inquiry topic will to be start answering some of my questions because we all have 2 questions each and everything but our main one is what is a black hole and things like that because I think I should start focusing on answering my questions.

Making Connections with Black holes

13th June -

WALT - Re craft our questions so that they are thoughtful and specific.

Today the two classes room 9 and 10 got into groups of fours and picked a space topic to investigate and research about and the topic we have chosen is black holes because we don't know a lot of black holes and my group wanted to learn about it, some of the things we already new about black holes were that it was big, its a hole, its black and basic things like that, some of the questions we came up with were "has anyone ever searched a black hole?"

"Who was the first to discover and name the black whole?"

"When was the first recording of the black hole? did they find anything?"

"Are there any recorded searchings of the black hole?"

If it has been recorded and searched when was the recording? Did they find anything?

Those are just a few questions we came up with we have so much more but these were just the basic questions we have.

14th June -
Its the next day and we will be starting our researches and things like that we will be using different books and websites to accomplish these things, we also have gotten a small better understanding about what a black hole is this is only a small description as we will be adding on ideas and things like that as we get further into our investigation. 

18th June -
It's been 5 days since we started this project and i've gotten this good understanding of what black holes do some of the things they do include sucking in dying stars, there are at least 100 million of them, they can be up to 100 million to billion times bigger then our sun. This week we will start creating a poster,video or something to present our work.

Day and Night Explanation

Today I have completely finished my Day and Night Explanation writing, Im not going to be doing a lot of explaining because most of the explainting is on the actual slide and there is a lot of fun facts in there about the 3 topics I have written about and thing like that, Hope you enjoy.

What Happened To Tobruk?

The past 1-2 weeks we have been learning about the history of Tobruk and the Panmure Community, I thought that this task was fun because I got to learn things like where the actual name Tobruk is from and where Tobruk is based, I also got to learn so much more which is in the google slide up top.

Something that I think I need to work on is to maybe give a little less or more detail in my work and that's something I always do its either to much or to less I hope you enjoy my google slide about the history of Tobruk.

Mary Jane - How to play Hei Tama Tu Tama:

HOW TO PLAY HEI TAMA TU TAMA:

Epuipment - None 

Actions - 

1 - Hands on the hips / Every player must start with this position

2 - Both Hands up with there fist clinched 

3 - Left hand up, Right hand on hip.

4 - The same but Right hand up, Left hand on hip

Here are the steps for playing this game -

1 - Stand facing each other, with hands on hips,

2 - Player says "Hei Tama tu tama" and choses there actions which is shown in the photo and in the writing,

3 - Player to does the same as the first player but they chose a different action for it,

4 - This is when the game starts and both player say "Hei Tama tu Tama" you want to try and chose a different move,

5 - The winner is the first to notice the other player doing the same move but to get the point you have to say TAMARA and the point will go to you.

The number of people who can play this is 2 but you can have a 3 but the thrid person will have to go after the loser.

What did I think of the game?

I thought that this game was kind of dificult game to be honest but it was really fun as well but the hardest thing about playing this is that remembering to say Tamara/ Hei Tama tu tamara because you to busy being focused on what the other persons doing and what your going to do but other then that I really liked it and I cant wait to play this game again.

Mary Jane - Mutorere Indigenous New Zealand game

Today we learnt how to play an indigenous game of New Zealand called mutorere.

It is a brain game that makes you strategize and use logic to outwit your opponent.

Here are some photos to show what the game and things like that kind of look like.

To play this game you will need to have some lego blocks you only need four make sure there the same color so you dont get confused and you will need the right sheet which you can find on google images by writing in Mutorere, There arent really any rules because its a basic game the only thing you have to do is if you wont you can bring in an old game and play rock, paper, sizzors to see who gos first. After getting that done you want always start from the side if you start first if your not kind of understanding I will add in a video ( LINK TO VIDEO )  again if you dont understand watch the video.

My personal reflection is that this is an amazing game and very easy the things you need are also really easy to get as well, I wasnt the best at this game but I still thought that it was really fun even though I lost to all my friends and class mates because there pros and congrats to Kanye for winning and beating everyone and also lovey for coming second. I had a really fun day but the biggest thank you to Miss Kyla ( My teacher ) for teaching everyone the game and showing us some videos, Hope you enjoy!

Mary Jane - Qualities - Careers T3W6

Today the year 7 and 8's of Tamaki Primary did one of their usal programs called careers, This is done by one of the teachers from Tamaki Primary, The Teacher talks to the year 7 and 8's and teachs them about what different careers there are and the difference about them also she helps us learn more about our selves and also help us and others to learn more about each other, I like this program because I learn more about myself and others.

I think other schools should do this program because people and others can learn about  them selves which is good because some people dont know who they are yet and doing this may make them feel comfrontable and make them feel like they know themselves.

Mary Jane - heart foundation lesson T3W2

Today my class Room 10 did a little season or lesson that told us how to eat and pick things healthy and we well I learned lots of new things like did you know another word for chicken is poultry like who would call a chicken poultry but anyways this was all thanks to the Heart foundation program, In this lesson we did learning and a game it was a really quick easy game to play and it showed everyone knowledge with things.

In this slide I have answered a bunch of questions like what we did and everything, for me personally I thought that this was a fun task to do and I also thought that some of the so could healthy food would have been heather but not really and did you know oats and weet -bix is the healthiest break fast you can eat and its quiet fun to me and I got to learn how much sugar is in other things and also how to read the nutrition levels and things liken that.

Mary Jane, Lizzy and Aja - How hobbies might support your whare tapa wha - T3W1

At Tamaki primary our new inquiry is hobbies and things like that and this slide show is how your hobbies can help with your different healths like mental and phycial health. 

In this slide show there are different questions that me and my friends have answered to show it can help and support you and your hobbies and it is also showing how hobbies can have an affect on your family or whanue which is pretty fun and it also have things you can do to make that bond stronger.

Sugar songs - Huriata, Ricky, Lovey, Mary Jane, Lizzy and Pairs.

Today in room 10 we showed the whole class what we did, Our group was working on a play but we hadn't made the puppets yet so we just went with it we also made sure that we tried to add all of the different sugars but we didnt because we didnt have enough time, I didnt really like it because I dont like talking to a lot of people so I was scared and angry but I was happy that we got some of it done and also that I got to do it with my best friend Lizzy.

I think this was kind of a good task but some of us didnt make it really detailed but they were really good anyway and I will give that to them I also liked it because I got to see what others in my class learnt about sugar and also how they thought sugar would affect there lives, I dont really think this helps me with my learning because I am shy.

Mary Jane - That sugar film Part 2

Yesterday again the year 7;s and 8's watched thar sugar film again, I learned a lot more than I did in the first one I learnt how much sugar was in Tereikya sause, I also learned a lot more about how sugar can not only affect our mind and other things like that I also learnt how damanging sugar can be to your teeth.

Mary Jane and Kalo - That sugar film Part 1

Yesterday the year 7 and 8's of Tamaki primary started watching a film called that sugar film, This is a film about a fit young man eating healthy and he wanted to see and feel what sugar does to his body so he started a experanment where he had to eat at least 40 tea spoons of sugar a day yes 40 tea spoons but this meant that he couldnt eat any junk food.

When he started he couldn't bare eating all the sugar that he had to eat but than he slowy started getting used to it, Here is my slide show but this is just a small amount of the docomentry hope you enjoy.
