Freestyle Writing

WALT - Freestyle write about an image.

Today our Teacher (Ms Komor) asked us to write a story about a picture. This is what I wrote. Tell me your opinions and what you think about it in the comments. I did enjoy doing this because it was relaxing knowing that you could just write any way you wanted, I didn't dislike anything because I just really enjoyed writing the way I wanted to write. My next steps will to be re reading it out loud because some parts of my story didn't make sense.


MY STORY ...........

The wind rushed through her hair as she descended the mountain at great speed. For most children this would be an exhilarating, even a terrifying experience. But for lucy  it was just an ordinary journey to school.

Lucy was about 15 years old, she lived high up on a very green mountain in a thick forest in Vietnam. She went to a small and very nice school in her local town/village, she was a very smart girl she topped nearly all her classes except math. Her school was like mine small and local but her school had a bit more students.

Lucy woke up at 6:25am every morning to get to school on time, she had a lot of chores and things to do before going to school. Thursday morning Lucy woke up a bit later than usual instead of waking up at 6:25am she woke up at 6:39am, once Lucy woke up and realized the time she rushed out of bed and quickly went for the fastest shower she had ever had. Her mother shouted out at her “LUCY QUICKLY YOUR GONNA BE LATE!!” Lucy shouted back “I KNOW I'M TRYING!!”.

Lucy quickly finished her shower and threw on her uniform and ran down the stairs, threw on her shoes grabbed her things and said to her mother “I LOVE YOU GOT TO GO NOW BYE!!” her mother replied “I love you t” but Lucy had already slammed and ran out the door. But she remembered she had to get the bag of crops so she slammed open the door and ran in and grabbed the crops her mother smiled and waved bye to Lucy.

Lucy ran down the steep mountain track through the forest as fast as she could without slipping over, she saw her zipline and quickly but on the harness and zipped down the line, she loved going down the zipline because it gave her a breathtaking thrill but as she liked to call it “a horrifying eye popping thrill”, but Lucy loved going to school like this because it was fast and fun.

By the time she got off the zipline it was 7:19am she jumped off and ran down a small hill, she quickly jumped on her yellow bike and peddled as fast as she could to school, it took about an hour on her to bike to her school, she arrived at school at 8:34am she put her crops in her locker and quickly found her friends before walking into her class.

It was 3:10pm and the end of school bell rang, Lucy hugged her friends good bye and waved she quickly grabbed her crops before going into town to sell them. In her bag she had fruits and vegetables like bananas, cabbage, potatoes that her and her mother grew while her father was out working to support them.

She got into town at 3:23pm and pulled out a sheet to put her fruits and vegetables, she sat there for hours trying to sell all her fruits and vegetables she sold some but she did have a lot left over.    

She biked home at 5:51pm and got back home at 7:12pm, she gave her mother the money she got a very good amount of money 18 dongs and 15 dollars 240,000 dongs her mother was happy and satisfied because it could pay their power and get them food for the rest of the year.

Writing Reflection

This week for writing we have been working on persuasive writing and the topic was 'Electric cars are the future'. I really did like doing this topic because I made the people in my group agree with me when they all didn't agree with me. Another thing I enjoyed was arguing with other groups that disagreed with me. I do personally think that Electric cars will be the future because they are a lot cheaper to fun and they are combating climate change and air pollution.

Something I didn't enjoy about this was that you had to make sure everything you were saying was backed up by something else or another idea or key point, but other then that I really enjoyed it because it was just really really fun.

My next steps are going to be actually thinking about what I say because last time I was arguing and trying to persuade people I was just saying anything that came to my mind and some of the things I couldn't backup and thing like that.

Writing Relfection

This week we haven't been doing a lot of writing except reflections and and free writing from when it was hailing a few days ago. The most writing we have done have all been on reflections about other topics like inquiry, maths and other work and topics.

Something I enjoyed about this week's writing is that it was really easy because we were just reflecting on what we did in and on other topics, the thing I enjoyed most about this week's writing is that we did a free fast writing about the hailing that happened a few days ago or on Tuesday. 

Something I didn't enjoy about this week's writing is that we didn't do a lot of writing like we the most we did was again the story about it hailing on Tuesday, as I know maths and other topics are important but writing is just as important and I do feel like we do need to do a bit more writing because we haven't done as much this time.

My next steps for writing is to probably write in my own time a bit more since we aren't doing as much writing this term, and I do feel like if we don't write then we will probably start to see some of our vocabulary start to fail. Another next step is to read more books and things like that.

The Hailstones

WALT-describe the hailing from outside using figurative language.

I hear a CrAck CrAck coming from the window, I see nearly everyone's heads turn towards the window mine turns as well all we see is a small hail storm form, small little opaque balls of ice hitting the roof it was so loud it sounded like someone was stomping around on the roof. We all watched and listened to the CrAck and sTomP of the hail hitting the roof.

The hail got louder and Louder and LOUDER and even LOUDER CRACK AND STOMP! But from it being LOUD it went Quieter and quieter and we all thought it was over BUT then it started to rain and hail over and over again BUT this time there was a BIG RUMBLE! From that a small thunderstorm had started with the rain and hail storm.

The storm is very off and on, it starts hailing and raining and then it slowly gets quieter and quieter then it STOPS and after it stops its starts up again maybe even with a bit of thunder this time. It stops maybe for good this time?

Terrible Tsunami Poem

The Terrible Tsunami -

The day was clear and the sun was bright, then the volcano erupted,

plates moved, and the world split and the ocean erupted.

With a bang and a woosh.

It wanted pounce, it wanted to destroy, it wanted debrey to float 

But instead,

I saw was panic, all I heard was loud screams and I stared death right in the face.

But it's over, the terrible Tsunami tortured those trembling people.

The sea came and it left a deadly trace.

Explanation Writing Reflection

Throughout the week we have been doing explanation writing about our inquiry topic natural disasters, the disaster I have chosen is the well known Tsunami.

Here is some of my completed explanation writing -

Introduction -

Tsunamis are the third most dangerous natural disaster in the world nearly destroying anything in it's way or in it's path.

Paragraph 1 -

Tsunamis are huge waves that are caused by strong earthquakes, landslides and underwater volcanic eruptions.

This means that when the Earth’s crust violently shakes it causes a large bodies of water to pull back and rash forward causing huge waves to form and that causes Tsunami. A better way to explain this is when things like Earthquakes, landslides and underwater volcanic eruptions happen it displaces the water causing huge waves and those waves try find a stable position and the closer the waves come to shore the bigger they get.  An example is put your hand in water try make one side a bit deeper the the other, start violently shaking and moving your hand and take your hand out when you think you have shaken it enough

Paragraph 2 -

Tsunamis aren’t always caused by Earthquakes they are caused by many other things as i’ve already said (volcanic eruption underwater and on land and landslides). This happens when the water gets a sudden displacement from the volcanic eruption and it’s somewhat the same for landslides but instead huge bodies of rock and dirt push the water up causing a Tsunami, most Tsunamis that are formed by landslide aren’t as fatal as those from volcanic eruption and Earthquakes. An example is when in 1490 B.C the Minoan Civilization of Greece was struck by a Volcanic Tsunami.  The result of this is that the Minoan Civilization suffered a big loss in crops and homes.

Paragraph 3 -

Tsunamis are capable of many things, in this paragraph we will be talking about how the affect many people.

So what this means is people are nearly always affected by Tsunamis how are people affected well read the example.

An example of this is when the huge 2011 Tsunami hit Japan, it first started with a strong Earthquake violently shaking the Earth and then from that shaking huge waves are formed and that causes a Tsunami and many people were hurt and injured. The results were huge 15,896 people lost their lives, 6,157 people were injured, 2,537  people were missing and up to 360 billion USD of damage and most of Japan’s population were homeless.

Conclusion -

Tsunamis are deadly and destructive waves that cause damage nearly everywhere they hit but they aren’t just here to be destructive because everything happens for a reason.

Day and Night Explanation

Today I have completely finished my Day and Night Explanation writing, Im not going to be doing a lot of explaining because most of the explainting is on the actual slide and there is a lot of fun facts in there about the 3 topics I have written about and thing like that, Hope you enjoy.

Mary Jane - Similes Practice task - T3W5

Today room 10 my class did a task called similes practice, This was a good task because it helps our understanding of using similes and also other understanding there point of view, I think that this was a good task because again it was good so other and ourselves got to understand similes more.

Honey Making - Mary Jane

This week in room 10 we have been writing about how bees making honey and the process of it and we are also learning about other amazing facts like that here is my explanation that I did about bees and honey hope you enjoy.

Today in room 10 we did something called the ko te whakatuaki o te wiki, this is like a maori quote if you go onto the second slide you will see what the maori quote is and the english verision of it.

I also like this task because I get to learn more maori and insripring quotes,

I think Cause is what happens or happened and effect is the after mass of it,

Today in Room 8 when we were doing writing we did Poetry, In this poetry we did expressing emotions through doing this type of writing ( POETRY) and I did an emotion but can you guess what it is??

Story Cubes Writing - Mary Jane

Images I need to use for this story - Tower, Flower and Key.
 One day a man named Jake thought of building a very high building, a few years past and his building was finished, He called it the long line tower, The long line tower was one of the world's biggest building. One day Jake went to go ask a builder to build him a custom made door, the door took for weeks because jake wanted it to be the best door anybody had ever seen. After the door was made Jake went to get his key measurements, the man the was measuring gave him the measurements and Jake walked down to the key maker and gave the man his key measurements. A few days went by and Jake went back to the key maker and picked up his keys for the long line tower, Jake was so happy he could get his tower more upgrades and make his tower better, Jake was over joyed seeing his key, he put the key in the keyhole and opened up his tower, it had all the gib wood in it. About a 6 months later all the towers walls were painted and they looked amazing, a quarter of the tower was a hotel some was a restaurant, some of the tower was a arcade for kids and adults, Jake thought of making the back and front of the building a garden for crops and plants so Jake got a great gardener and the gardener made plan grass into a beautiful garden with crops and flowers, Jakes Long line tower was getting popular and popular. About 7 months later Jake's long line tower was one of the best towers in the world, Jakes gardener came back to plant some more flower and crops, a few days later Jake got told he was now able to see his garden the gardener took him outside, Jake was as bouncy as a kangaroo Jake looked around and then he saw a big bunch of purple hibiscus flowers, Jake loved them because they where big bright and beautiful, and his tower stayed there for a long time.

Persuasive writing - Be Firewise - Mary Jane

For me being firewise means you can save yourself and family, and you can prevent people getting hurt, Being firewise means you can save yourself or someone else in a fire.

Being firewise means you can be safe around fire even when cooking, using a fireplace or evening burning rubbish.

You should be firewise because it’s important fires can start from almost anything like cigarettes, food that's not being watched and leaving candles on a edge where they could fall off.

My holiday - Mary Jane

Today in Room 8 we did a recount on our holidays, this is my holiday story, My holiday for me was okay but I didn't really go out that much, I still thought that my holiday was fun because my sister moved into a new house and I helped her pack and I also looked after her little daughter and the best part is I spent time with my family.

Today in room 8 we did A fun Friyay day writing, We had to stick our hand in A black bag and we had to think of what wee thought of it only using similes and Metaphors and these are them I thought the thing that where in there was as sticky as tree sap and and as crumberly as crackers hope you have fun reading them. :D
