Maths Reflection

On Monday for maths we were trying to solve and change fraction in percentages, the group I was in was very lost and we didn't understand much about it. Something I enjoyed about this lesson was that we all tried really hard to solve and figure the answer out.

Something I didn't like or found challenging was a lot of it but mainly trying to figure out what the percentage was because it was really hard and I was really really lost and it didn't help no one in my group knew what they were doing and things like that.

My next steps are going  to try harder and harder because I do remember that I was so lost that I didn't really try so much because I was to confused and I basically had no idea what I was doing and things like that. Another thing i'm going to do next time is to talk a bit more as well because I feel like that would help as well.

Maths Reflection

Throughout the week we have been working on a Maths assignment where we have to pick one of the Maths topics (Decimals, Division, Fractions) the one I first started off with was decimals, the question I chose was there was 15.4m of rope and she cut them into 2.7m,2.8m, 1.9m and 1.8m.

If you minus 15.4 and 2.7 it epauls 12.7 and 12.7 - 2.8 equals 9.9 and 9.9 - 1.9 = 8.0/8 and 8.0 - 1.8 equals 6.2, after we found out the answers for your question then we used screencastify to explain how we got our answer and why we think its that answer.

Something I enjoyed about doing this week's maths is that it was a little easy it did take a while to figure out the answers but it was really fun because it did give my brain a little challenge but overall I really enjoyed it. Something I didn't enjoy was that when I was doing my screencastify people was interrupting my talking even when I was outside and people were stomping and talking and I had to keep restarting.

My next steps for maths is to try and do harder questions because these were really good questions but they weren't hard and they did challenge my brain but not enough, another thing i'm going to do for my next steps is practice maths more at home just so it becomes a bit easier.

Can you figure out these questions?

Maths Reflection

WALT - add, subtract and finish decimal problems.

In the middle block we have been working on maths, this terms maths is mainly focused around decimals and how to solve them. This morning maths we were finishing off the worksheet we had been given from our teachers, these worksheets have a lot of decimal questions ranging from adding and subtracting to word problems etc.

Here is a few questions I had done.
1 - 5 one + 4 tenths = 4 ones + 14 tenths.

4 ones + 14 tenths is the same as 5 ones and 4 tenths because 10 tenths are the same as one whole or 1, so 4 ones + 14 tenths = 5 ones and 4 tenths.

 3.6
- 2.4 =
1.2

So the reason the answer is 1.2 is because starting from the right side .6 - .4 = .2 and moving over to the whole numbers and go 3 - 2 = 1 then add 1 + .2 = 1.2 giving us our answer.

Something I enjoyed about today's maths is that I got to do it with my friends and we were all focused and we all wanted to succeed in our maths today. One of the things I found challenging about today's maths was that I found one of the questions a bit hard and it was the first question I gave you guys, I didn't understand it until it got properly explained.

What is 4.5 - 12.3?

Maths Reflection

Yesterday for maths I started our worksheet task that we had been given from the teacher. The thing we were learning in Maths were improper fractions so fractions like 9/5 and 10/3.

Something I found difficult with this was that I haven't really worked on improper fractions so some of the questions are really hard or hard to understand and things like that, something I also found hard was that because I wasn't here I didn't know what to do exactly. Something I enjoyed about yesterday's maths was that I got to do it with someone I usually don't do maths with and it was fun to see how different we figured out the problem and the ways we solve them.

My next steps or something im going to do next time is if im really stuck I should go ask the teacher for help so that way I understand what to do and how to do it because I feel like it would be better to understand what i'm doing then just guess most of the answers, I somewhat understand what I was supposed to be doing and things like that it's just next time I have to make sure if I don't understand then I should ask but I other then that it was ok.

Here's an improper fraction question -
43/7 =
29/4=
13/6 =
Can you guys figure out these questions?

Maths Reflection

WALT: using class equipment and materials to improve on our basic facts and etc.

This afternoon we have been doing our normal Maths lesson, in this Maths lesson we got to play a wide variety of different Maths games most of them using games.

The game we played involved your normal house playing cards, what we did was took out all the face cards or royal cards (Jack, Queen and King)  and left all the numbered cards. After sorting out all the cards we started to play our game the game we played can be used with addition, multiplication, division.
To play this you need numbered cards or paper.
You need at least 2 people or more.
Paper and pencil if you need it to work out any problem (optional)
What you want to do first is make sure your players know what they are doing and then you pick the Maths you would like to do so say you want to do addition and then make sure your players know that they are doing addition, next you flip over 2 or more cards and they have to add it up until someone gets the answer. The person with the most cards win.

Something I really enjoyed was that you had to think really fast and say the answer extremely fast otherwise you would lose and sometimes people would say words and not numbers or they got confused and said something else and I thought that this was really funny and I also found playing with my friends was really really fun and enjoyed as well.
Something I found challenging this afternoon is that you have to really fast and one of my friends that I versed is extremely good at her times tables so I had to be extra fast and make sure I got the correct answer otherwise I would lose, but in the end I still won.

So I would like to improve on some of my multiplication and my divisions and things like that because I think I should work on them a lot more because I feel like I should know all of them by know, so that means my next steps will to start practicing a lot more at home and make sure im  really practicing and get someone at home to test me on my multiplication.

Do you have any Maths goals?

Maths Test Reflection

IALT: write a reflection about our Maths lesson.

Today Room 9 and 10 did a test to see our understanding of Maths, the test we did had many many problems in it and there were a lot of questions that had me stop and think.

Something I did really enjoy about doing this test is that it really does make you think and double check your answers especially because I personally want to make sure I got the answer correct and things like that. Something I didn't enjoy and found challenging about this test is that most of the questions were asking us about things I haven't learned about and things that I had no idea how to figure them out.
Another thing I found challenging was that at certain questions I had to really think about them because I just had to double and triple check everything was right and doing this was time consuming but I luckily got the test done.

My next steps for a maths test will be probably trying to make sure that I know and feel confident with my answers even though I checked it because I found that even though I might have checked it 5 times I still wasn't confident but I think it is and was because I didn't know how to solve out some of them correctly so I tried to solve it however, but next time I think I should try feel more confident with my answer and if I dont then I think I should change it next time.

The thing I would like to improve on next time is also learning how to do some of these problems because I think it will be better to learn them and things like that so next time I have a question like that or a problem like that I know a good way to solve them instead of just guessing and trying to figure it out with a strategy that isn't meant for that question and problem.

Did you know that people were tested on their maths and they all said they were good at maths but scientist say only 33 percent actually were?

Do you think your good at maths?

Can you figure out at least one of those questions down below?

Here are some Photos -

Mary Jane - Stage 4 Algebra Problem, Tia and Tom

Today we sloved an algebra problem to caulate how much would be spent and earnt by 2 twins named Tia and Tom, The problem was that the twins were different with there money because Tom spent money and Tia saved money so we had to figure out who will have the most money on what day and we finished the problem fast, I think that this was easy but not to early because we all got it but we all made one little mistake we all started from 18 dollars not 20.

I would do this task again because its really fun and we are building our knowledge and we are also building a great knowledge for what we will be doing in high school oe college which make the year 8's ready and also the year 7's for beganing there years as a year 8 and also when they leave for college and high school so I thought that this was a very good educational task and I used a lot of things like plus tables and that but it was very easy.

Matariki stars for maths - Mary Jane

Today room10 my class got to do some maths about matariki we got taught the shape of matarki and how if never changes the only thing is that it rotates this is my photos of a hook showing even if it is rotated it still is the same thing,
The first one which is the left one if a 360 degree angle of the matariki and the second one is a 90 degree angle but if you didnt know the thrid is 180 degrees and the last one is 270 and than it goes back to 360 degrees again,
I learnt a lot about matariki and degrees not only that I also learnt that they dont flip and they only rotate.
Hope you enjoy my small little blog post!!
